Rutgers Division of Public Safety sponsors the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course that involves 20 hours of basic training in disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism, and team organization. It is designed to prepare individuals to help themselves and others during an emergency prior to the arrival of emergency services personnel and then to work as a team in conjunction with the professional responders

The program is open to all members of the Rutgers community and includes both classroom instruction and a field exercise. Our goal is to provide trained groups of individuals that can assist the university community during disaster situations. The training program is generally divided into four sessions:

Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Psychology,
Terrorism, and CERT Training

Disaster Medical Operations

Light Search and Rescue, and CERT Organization

Fire Safety Review and Disaster Simulation

The CERT program provides valuable knowledge and skills that can help protect our employees, the university community, and the communities in which we live. For further information contact Officer Ronald Trivinia at 856-225-6009.
