The University Police department at Rutgers-Camden consists of 18 full-time police officers, 60 security officers, and four dispatchers. Only a half-dozen colleges and universities in New Jersey have their own commissioned police forces. The department operates on a non-stop basis.

Patrols: Every day (24 hours a day, 365 days a year), University Police patrol an area equivalent to 1.5 square miles. Campus patrols are conducted on foot, on bicycle, and in cars. Rutgers University's Camden campus consists of approximately 40 acres bounded by Broadway to the east, the Delaware River to the west, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge to the north, and Cooper Street to the south.

Security Officers /CSOs: Unarmed security officers are stationed in campus buildings and join unarmed community service officers (CSOs) in patrols of the campus. All are connected to the RUPD dispatcher with personal communication devices that allow instantaneous reports, thereby extending the eyes and ears of the police force. CSOs receive 40 hours of intensive training, with regular updates.
